Ok, so far so good, I think...
I have had basically my first week of school (officially that mile marker is tomorrow). I have had at least one of each of my classes. Right now we are going through the "This should all be review" section of the material. I think some classes are going to be like that for most of the semester for me but that is ok. Not only will it be a good refresher but I will learn things I didn't absorb the first time around. I am a little disgruntled by the biostats class because he explained yesterday that there are 52 cards in a deck, and six sides to dice. I know that this class has a diverse student body, which includes non-US citizens, returning students, and fresh graduates. I also think that a graduate course should not be dumbed down for the lowest common denominator. If someone is not understanding the very basic components of the class they should either be helped outside of class or consider signing up for a more basic class before entering the higher level class. Of course I am assuming that I am not in the most basic class. I guess that is something I had not considered before now...hmm...
I am now fully convinced that the education I received at IUPUI did prepare me very well for UC. I will need to study hard to memorize all the details of Cell Bio and Mol Gen but I think if I sit down and take the time it should not be a problem.
I am really excited because Mom, Mike, Kathy, and Matt are coming this weekend for the Ohio Ren Fair Viking weekend. I have been looking forward to this since I moved here. Next weekend, Dad, Janeen, Ron, and Michelle are coming for the Highland fling weekend. Of course, if anyone else is interested, let me know. The more the merrier.
Ok, and before I go, go to this website to find your family coat of arms
http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp/sId./qx/default.htm
I have found almost all the ones that I searched for, though Ambs and Armatis were not in there. Interesting...

Website for my program...
I just wanted to post the website for the graduate students in my program. In a couple of days my picture and my fellow first years will also be up.
http://www.pathobiology.uc.edu/html/gradstudnts.html
Also, just so you know, the other first years are:
Christina Martin
Amanda Huber
Kevin Fuller
My thoughts are with Texas during this time of potential danger and hardship because of Rita (which happens to be the name of the female lead on Silk Stalkings, one of my favorite shows from the early 90's).
Night,
Juls
HEHEHEHEHE.....
Ok, I just had to post this result. Mostly because as most people know I love A Perfect Circle almost to the point of obsession. Heheheh, almost...
Music Buff You scored an 82% in music knowledge! |
Wow, so you know your way around the stereo, and you know who Maynard is. Unfortunatly you DON't know enough about music to really be called a guru. You're so close, I can smell the fake tattoos. |
|
My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:
| You scored higher than 84% on music knowledge |
|
So I have started the downward spiral...
Today starts the first day of my graduate classes. I was in Indy over the weekend and I took yesterday off to completely blank out before I had to start back into the whole academic thing.
My first class of the day was the intro to my Cell Biology: Proteins and Enzyme class, which is going to basically cover biochemistry and metabolism. I am not as concerned about the class now because he went over a lot of information that pertains to the class, which between biochemistry and biomembranes I have already have had. There will be of course new information and I will need to rememorize the information but since I will be helping my fellow graduate students learn the information I am not worried.
I have my biostats class today and that class I am a little worried about because I have not had math since freshman year of undergrad. Luckily, Erin, one of my classmates, was a math major in undergrad and she said she will help us.
Well, I am hanging out with Christina and Amanda now while we are between classes.

One of those days...
So I am having one of those days, you know, the ones in which you wish you could punch everyone you see or break all the windows in your office. There is no reason to feel this violent, but you do. There are no "women's problems" that can be attributed to it, no one cut you off in traffic, not everything is wrong at work. No, you just want to cause damage to everything you see for no apparent reason.
Of course, if I was still in Theories of Personality, we would discuss the fact that there is a reason, and depending on which theorist you were discussing at that time, it could be many things. Like, some thing in childhood that happened and has been triggered by something in the environment. Or that I am projecting my anger at my self onto everything around me (wait that could be it but that just makes me more angry so I am not going to think about it).
But at the end of the day, I am not going to cause violence. I am not going to hit anyone or break glass. Instead, I am going to repress everything. I like repressing. It is fun. But the question to ask here is if I know that I am repressing and if I still remember what I am repressing. Am I actually repressing?
If I were you I wouldn't ask me in person. I might explode. I think the best thing for me right now is to leave work, go home, and not talk to anyone for the rest of the night. That is not to say if someone called I wouldn't answer the phone. I expect some people to call (ie Kathy) and I want other people to call me without me saying anything (ie Georgia).
School starts next week. It should be fun.
Grrrrrrrr,
Juls
PS I think that anyone that doesn't come to the Halloween party, I am going to send a piece of coal to them for Christmas.
Getting a little bit closer to the best time of the year...
So it is a little less than two months until Halloween. I know, I know, it seems far away but Kathy has issued a challenge that must be met. Every year we have a themed party. Every year there is at least one person that doesn't dress up. I have decided that this year, I will make sure that everyone knows in advanced so they can plan.
This year's theme: Dress as the thing you fear the most.
This leaves it pretty open because it could be spiders, snakes, the moon, semi-trucks, poverty, or even (dare I say it) fear itself. We want people to be inventive and thought provoking. Ok, we just want people to dress up and have fun.
We haven't discussed when exactly the party will be but I am assuming it will be around Oct 28/29. I would prefer Oct 29, because I will still have to drive to Indy for the party.
I also want to point out that unless people have "other" friends that are as wonderful and creative as us, EVERYONE should come. Of course, it is not at my house (I doubt people would drive all the way to Cinci for that) but I think I can go out on a limb and say that pretty much any one of our friends that posts on mine or Kathy's blogs are invited. And I guess all the people that don't visit our blogs are invited too. Of course, they don't know that I said that because they don't visit.
I have been counting slides too long. My inner monologue is no longer quite inner.
Whahahhahhahh,
Juls
PS I am coming back to Indy this weekend.
Oh pooh...
My favorite on Rockstar INXS got kicked off last night. Though I do have to admit that she had been sucking the last couple of shows. She allowed herself to get to nervous. She started to second guess herself and that is not good so close to the finale. Now I am rooting for Susie, which I guess means that she will be next booted. No really, Susie probably has had the best voice for INXS all along. I think that Jordis will do great as a solo artist.
And yes my life is this boring,
Juls
So it is all about over...for now...
The summer is almost over. I don't yet know exactly when I will be done with my project. I am hoping soon so that I have a little time left before my fall quarter starts on Sept 21. I am looking forward to it. This will be the first time since I started working at 16 that I haven't had a job. Granted, studying will be my job but it is not the same. I guess I should relish it while it happens because it won't last. For winter quarter we do another rotation, but the class load is lighter. Then I believe for the spring we also don't work and then summer begins again with rotations. From there on out, I will be doing lab work-my project that will be for my dissertation.
So, this weekend is the weekend that the ren fair is having Pirates weekend. Some people had said they are thinking they would like to do it but since I haven't heard back, I thought I would go back to Indy this weekend. I will give people till the end of today to let me know if they do want to go to the ren fair. There will be other weekends, though, so keep that in mind. I will more than likely also go to Indy the weekend of Sept 17 and 18 so that I can see my parents before school starts since they are all out of town for this weekend-though I do think my mom and step dad get back on the 10th.
Well, it is so offical that it can't be more so. The doc called Kathy yesterday to say that she def has Graves' Disease. She will be going to the the endocrinologist to see what has to be done. We will keep you posted.
This weekend was eventfull, with a whole lot of bad events. I am not going to go into it because it is not my place to say but I do want to say that I give my love to Ruth and think she is the strongest person I know.
Got to go,
Juls
